remote desktop issue

Ever since I redid my home windows 7 installation i cannot connect to my work pc from home or my home pc from work.. both of which I have been able to do for years. I have configured this for several employees and they have been using it for just as long.

The server is running 2008 r2 and rd gateway. I create a certificate every 6 months that needs to be installed on the server and in the Trusted Root / Local Computer on the home computer. The rap and cap are correct. Nothing at all changed on the server. The others can still connect. So it's got to be on my home pc but what?

The home pc firewall is off. Nothing changed on the router. All I did was replace my harddrive and reinstall windows. Remote desktop service is running. The certificate is correct and it's not expired (the others are using it). The server name is correct in remote...

video and light autocad over RDP

Is there any working solution out there that makes it possible to view video and do some light-medium work over a remote session? Currently, the users connect to the RDS/terminal server but some of the upper management would like to able to view videos and some engineer would like to do some CAD. The main reason is due to centralizing, basically, doing all the work on the server instead of hopping back forth between server and local.

I heard of Microsoft's RemoteFX, Citrix, and VMware have some type of working solution, but are not very familiar with them. RemoteFX seems like the simplest to deal with since there is no 3rd party involve, but I am not sure how well it even handle such a task. There are about 20-30 users online at most, and people rarely view video. A few people do some graphic stuff/cadwork. All suggestion/input are...

We are having a problem in one of our VMs, recently has started showing the following Manageability error on the Server Manager Dashboard

I found a couple of forum saying to copy a driver from one server to another or delete some registry keys, but they do not look to apply for 2012R2 install

Remote Desktop Through a MicroTik

So I've set up my home server for remote desktop. I can access it anywhere outside of my network... except from another network at my apartment complex.

For example, when I'm in a friends room, who lives in the building next door (same apartment complex), it will not work. However if I'm at work or literally any other network, it will work. At my apartment each room gets a different public address on the same public subnet. For example my room has 105.145.75.55, and my friend will have 105.145.75.62.

I'm accessing remote desktop using the public IP. I've found the gateway of my apartment complex is a MicroTik. Would that block a connection from going out and coming back into the same public subnet?

RDS 2016 - A bunch or print issues (default gone, duplicate, missing)

Hi all,

i having a "Printer's Hell" with RDS 2016. users keep loosing the default printer - no green V which breaks printing PDFs (text files and MS files print ok)

further more - if i try to remove the device and reconnect again the printer will have 2 instances (or more) under the same printer.

also - if i open from IE the Print... Menu i see my default printer but not in the devices and printers...

another crazy issue is that after i remove all printers, logoff and login again - those printers mysteriously reappear even though i removed the user from the GPO targeting group for these printers (he cannot print to them but they appear)

i created a new Print server 2016 and allowed MS to detect and choose the driver and verified it selected the proper model and driver.my assumption is that if MS offers a driver after auto-detection - it...

Trying to create a virtual desktop collection, but the template doesn't show.

First time building a Windows Server 2016 with a friend.

Everything went really smooth until deploying VDI.

We want to host all the roles (including a DC) on a single server, since this is for a small company.

We had some trouble installing the RDS roles but eventually it succeeded.

Now we want to add a Virtual Desktop Collection, but the template doesn't show in the wizard.

We created a Win10 VM using hyper-v and syspreped it.

What are we doing wrong, why doesn't the template show in the wizard? Or could the problem be something else we did wrong?

Why RemoteApp not works?

Hi everyone,

Today i launched a new instance EC2 (Windows Server 2016) and jointed to my simple AD which was built on AWS too.

Then i set up  Microsoft Remote Desktop Services following this tutorial

https://www.virtuallyboring.com/setup-remote-desktop-services-in-windows-server-2012-r2/

The problem was: when i accessed through the Web Access using Internet Explorer from inside my EC2, it worked.

But if i use Internet Explorer or RemoteApp of my laptop, it failed.

Anyone had this problem before?

Auto Logon to RDS Server w/ Provided Credentials

I've just stood up a new Server 2012 RDS server to replace our old 2008 terminal server. On our 2008 server we have it set so that whenever an RDP connection is made the user gets logged in automatically with preset credentials (ex. prod with a password of "Prod123"). The setup for that is here. For the life of me I can't figure out how to get this same functionality set up for the new 2012 server. Hopefully I'm missing something simple. Has anyone done this or have any ideas?

Edit 5/31/17: Spent most of the day yesterday looking for a solution, never found one. For the time being we will be handing out saved RDP connection w/ the username password saved with them as a workaround. I'm still open to finding out a solution to the above issue so I will let this sit out here for if someone comes by with a solution.

Server 2016 and Settings Page Visibility

I'm (still) putting up my Server 2016 implementation of RD. That is going well. However, the users can access (even if not run anything administrative) from the immersive control panel (AKA "PC Settings").
-
Win 10, Creator's Update (1703) has a new "Feature" that allows controlling what is visible/hidden.
-
How do I get this on Server 2016? I was able to install the ADMX files for Windows 10 but despite being visible, there is no functionality behind the setting (I was afraid of that). I downloaded the latest ISO (-3) and installed a copy of it, but it was also missing the "Feature"

I would really like to get this functionality on my Server 2016 RDSH machines. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks,

2012 RD Gateway Random Connection Drops and Nothing in the Logs

$

I have been having a super weird issue with our RD deployment and after fighting it for a week, I am out of ideas. We have 25 remote users that access our TS farm via an RD gateway, but they are all dropped at the same time at random intervals that span between 2 and 8 hours. Here is the setup:

RD1 - Gateway server, Licensing server, Connection broker
RD2 - Session Host
RD3 - Session Host
FS - File server for profiles

All of the servers are running 2012 R2 and are built in a VMWare environment.

The RD deployment load balances the users between RD2 and 3, and stores profiles on the FS.

The strangest part of the whole thing is that there isn't anything conclusive in the logs on any of the servers. All I see is logged events for graceful disconnects of all the users when it happens. We do have an ASA in front of this with RD1 set up as a public...

RDS implementation question

Hello,

I need to set up RDS so that a single user can access one application (Sage100) hosted on a physical 2012 R2 server. This server is also the sole AD and File Server.

I've heard before you're not supposed to install the RDS roles on the AD.

Can you please suggest the minimum required servers to implement RDS in a reasonable secure way? Have any of you done something similar successfully?

I though maybe getting a second server and installing the roles there. Or installing hyper-v and setting up a second 2012R2 server.

Thank you for your help.

Windows RDC headaches. Settings & Dual Monitors

$

Hey everyone,

So I have a few dozen people using the same few computers around the clock. I want to throw a preset remote desktop connection on their desktops automatically and also have it open to a 2nd monitor automatically. Obviously I tried a simple saved RDP file in the default desktop for all users but it refuses to actually save the settings. The RDC program will automatically insert the username into the program, ignoring the saved file that was opened to begin with.

It also doesn't seem to save settings in general. I've tried RD Tabs but I feel it's more confusing for the end user. Display fusion is nice for the monitor issue but not enough to pay for and still doesnt fix the settings issue. I've tried editing the RDP Default file with the textpad but it always seems to revert to previous settings when opened by another user.

Directing Users in an RD Gateway Environment

We have a terminal server farm setup as the below:

Single Remote Desktop Gateway (RDSB)

Two identical Remote Desktop servers (RDS1 & RDS2)

At the moment, they are weighted the same too, so one user logs on, they are on RDS1, another comes on, they're on RDS2 etc.

The issue we're facing, pretty frequently the heavy users are landing on the same server out of pure chance, when 2 or 3 land on one server the resource usage goes through the roof and the server they're on slows down to a crawl.

My question then is, can we direct certain users to one server whilst still using the same setup we have in place? Or will things need to be changed for this to work.

I'm aware of using admin sessions to force a user onto one server that way, but that isn't really ideal in this situation.

Cannot open chrome on multiple TS sessions

So our old Terminal Server died a horrific death.

Had to create a new one from scratch during crunch time.

Chrome will open on the first remote connection that a user makes, but if they open a second connection chrome will not open. Any ideas?

How can you setup individual 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Servers (not in a farm, etc)

$

Hi Everyone,

I've run into an issue with a client on one area I haven't dealt with much. They have been running an 2012 R2 RDS server with the standard services running (session host connection broker, etc..) They are wanting to bring a second 2012 R2 RDS server online that can use the license manager off server #1, but they don't want there to be a server farm, load balancing, etc.. They want both servers to work independently. When I brought the second server with the session host service and pointed to server #1 for licensing, it was taking connections fine but we noticed it was doing the normal farm behavior for some users who were connecting to server #1, they were getting routed to server #2. All connections are done by direct ip (no server name or dns entry).

So is there any easy way in 2012 to keep the RDS servers and individual...

Hi,

Please advise,

i installed remote desktop service roles and installed license 50 device per cal,

and no issue upon installing the license, and also configured the server as host of remote desktop.

my server is only join in work group.

i also configured the local gpo and limit the number to 50. but when i checked and count the connected device its only 26 users are connected, and other are not able to connect.

Thanks,

Updates are available

I have a few RDS servers and the users are getting pop-ups when they log in saying updates are available. I have a regular patch day every month so updates are getting installed, but I want to suppress the notification that pops up. It's especially annoying on Server 2016.

Is there a GPO that would be best for this?
