Hello Everyone!

I have 2 servers on which i try to apply RD Environment.

The needed GPO path is :

User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Remote Session Environment >> Start  a program on connection

For testing, i am loading 'Notepad.exe'.

It works fine in 2008R2 but not in 2012R2.

Attached the snip from my DC (the exe that is configured, works with the same results as notepad)

Any ideas? What was changed between 2012R2 and 2008 R2

Dear Sir,

some of the users are facing problem like remote desktop keeps disconnecting when they are logged in through remote access vpn though they are not disconnected from Remote_Access vpn.

They are logged in through remote access vpn with their credentials. When user complaints about this remote desktop disconnection behavior and i go to check their remote access vpn connection so it shows that they are still logged in with their credentials but are not able to access server through Remote desktop .

Then again they try to access it trough RDP and connects to server but after some time again they get the message Remote desktop user is not able to login.

Could you please provide the solution for this strange behavior ?

Thank you so much for your support !!!

Thanks & Regards,

working Terminal Server - suddenly no RD access

Well - Friday was an interesting one.

Working absolutely fine and I'm working on other things when user comes in in a bit of a tiz.

She'd wanted to check that a potential customers email domain name was valid - they'd submitted their address as xxx@gmai .com (no space) - so she browsed to gmai .com (no space) and it had gone through a number of redirects and landed on a pretty weird page.

Ok - no problem - I'll just launch RDC and check the server is all ok - nope - can't get in - connection is refused.

Ok - no great shakes - I can get in via Hyper-V manager "connect" - other users are in and working ok - all the services look good and I can't see why RDC would be refused. Check in Event viewer - Service Control Manager - The remote desktop services service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). - it'll restart in 60k milli...

Remote app connection to an application server 2008r2

Hello we have a remote app to the AOD server that is a remote desktop that opens up the AOD application directly.   We are seeing some slowdown in the user experience as they click around on the application.   I have compared it to our terminal server experience and it is sometime slower. What can directly affect this remote app experience as I need to troubleshoot this connection? Would there be any log files that might relate to this?

2012 RDS Best Practices?

$

I have a server 2012 box with 16gb of ram.

It is running as a domain controller and a hypervisor.

I have assigned two cores and 11.5gb of ram to the Virtual machine.

We have setup the VM for running RDS to share Quickbooks and a Visual FoxProCRM.

The customer is not happy with the performance of the new server. Following the suggestions from this siteI tried disabling the fair share function of RDS. This did not improve the performance of the server and I reverted it back to the original settings.

I have seen another tech's server setup where he put the DC in the VM and left the file server as the physical server. Is this a better practice? Are there other best practices I should look into? The same author from that site linked above, suggested trying to build the VM in Type 1 mode.

I tried building a type 1 vmand attaching the current VHD...

Hello everyone! We've started the testing phase Windows server 2016. I was wondering if there was a way to setup a default user session. I would like my users to be able to login for the first time and not see all of the extraneous objects in their start menu, just MS Office, browser and our company specific program.

Thank you in advance for your help

Remote VPN computer login restriction

Hi

I have a questiong regarding our VPN users loging on via VPN then they go about logging into their respecive remote computer located at our office.

Here is what im trying to do:

A user from abroad logs into the VPN which is setup on a 2012 DC.

The user has a normal domain account and is able to login just fine.

He then enters the local IP of the computer located at the office with his username/password.

He is able to login without any more issues.

This is where my knowledge comes short :(

Im trying to restrict which computer the remote users are able to login to.

In the user management i can select "all computers" or a specific set of computers.

If i select on user A to be login to his remote computer PC-A he is denied to login.

For some reason the menu is showing "login to" when it really means "login from"

Do i need to specify the name of the...

Strange RemoteApp issue.

Warning - Longish

I had an application used by 3-4 users, some remote at the end of a slow link. They used to RDP into a server and use a network install of the software. Few months back, I installed it on a TS. Created a collection, added the users, including me, to the access group and manually configured the RemoteApp on the Windows 10 workstations. Worked great.

I'm now looking at an upgrade to my ERP. It supports a network install, but that still needs a local install of the DB2 client. So I thought, EASY. Load the client on a TS, create a collection and publish the app. So I did. The collection is accessible to a group, that I'm a member of. I then published the one app, and changed it's access to only me, while testing. So I have access to 2 published apps. Worked great.

Earlier this week, I announced the schedule for the upgrade...

Excessive duplication of printers on 2008 R2 terminal server.

This is a problem created by one of our techs. They were trying to move the user directory from the C drive to the D drive. They copied all the files they could of the C:\User\ directory then had all the users log off. Then they edited the registry pointing the "Default" "ProfilesDirectory" and"Public" paths to the D drive along with each individual account and then copied the rest of the files over.

During the process the client complained that the process was taking too long and had the move abandoned. So the paths were restored and the system rebooted. Since then we have had the (redirected #) printer problem.

The things that I have done to try to remedy this are.

1. Delete the user profile key from the registry and renamed the user folder to force the server to recreate the account completely. (Also created a new user account for...

Server 2016 RDS Printer Issue

Hello,

I have just deployed an instance of Server 2016 and configured it is as a RDS session host. Everything is working great! Except that I can't get the printers that I installed as an administrator on the server to show up for my normal user accounts.

Usually in my experience with TS/RDS servers, you are able to control your printers through devices and printers as an admin have any changes you make affect all users.

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks!

Can't install certificates to RDS session hosts

This is driving me nuts! We purchased wildcard certificates (*.domain.com) which I applied to the RDS broker and gateway. However, I can't add the certificate to the RDS session collection from Server Manager from the broker. Apparently, there's no way for me to do it at all. I've tried;

The problem is that we're getting a SSL warning when users outside the domain connect through RDWeb. Funny how you can add certificates to the broker and gateway but not the...

RDS – Highly Available or 2 Independent Environment?

$

Hi guys

I am currently working through making my head office environment highly available in the event of a complete site outage including File Server, Exchange and RDS. Looking into RDS I currently have a very simple 1 broker, 1 gateway/web and a number of session hosts so nothings currently highly available. I backup using Veeam and could restore a dead broker/gateway pretty quickly. I also replicate all my vms offsite to a remote site to a single host.

My question is, is it possible to make RDS highly available over 2 sites? Most solutions involve a load balancer and if I look at hardware for this, that’s still a single point of failure, mostly likely in my head office.

What I have been thinking is making myself a completely separate remote DR RDS environment in my remote site. That way everything is sitting there waiting to be...

Redirected printers on VDI's with RDP not redirecting on sign in

$

We have recently setup a few users to be able to use VDI computing, as some of you may have guessed we have had a lot of fun setting this up. One problem we are having is with redirected printing.

If users sign into their VDI session through RDP, the printers are not brought through at all, however if the user disconnects (not signs out) and then logs back in to the VDI, through RDP, the printers get pulled through. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I have looked around and found this could be an issue with the latest patch (1607) which has a series of small patches integrated to prevent black hats from using printing vulnerabilities - so I guess this might not be linked just to VDI's but with RDP itself?

Link to Microsoft forum

If anyone knows of a patch or permanent solution, I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks guys.

Trouble Inking over RDP with Chromebook and Server 2012

Has anyone had any luck inking over RDP in a reliable manner.  It seems hit an miss to me.

Our pressing situation is a group of 20 users who are about to go mobile and a manager who wants them to use Chromebooks with RDP and expects them to be able to ink.

Windows computers running the Microsoft client seem to be hit and miss.  The Chromebooks with Chrome RDP (no MS RD Client available) don't want to ink at all.

We are not yet in a position to go to VMware Horizons.

Remote Session Host-Add Home directory to Work Resource Page

$

We have a remote session host configured to allow an application we publish to be available to our clients.

Our clients have been complaining that it is too much work to drill down to their folder to their computer to retrieve their files.

I was asked if I can create a folder that would map to a home directory on the work resource page.

Has anyone been able to create this in their environment?

I realize that I can configure profile disks but this is a production environment.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Nvidia GRID, Vmware ESXi and Windows RDS questions

$

Hi guys,

I would like to offload the CPU bottleneck on RDS servers and Internet Explorer and heavy webpages are lowering the concurrent number of users we can take at any time. I looked at remotefx a while ago but it seems that I need to use Hyper-V to actually get my RDS servers to make use of it.

I'm seeing some material from nvidia abrout grid and what it does, but nowhere I can see if actually I can get an ESXi host with a card like this and get some Windows 2012 R2 VMs to use the GPU. Would this be possible? Has anyone done anything similar?
